Southern African Antelope Species

Southern African Species

Introduction

Trophy rooms are a hunter’s memoir of the adventures into the vast unpopulated portions of the wide world. Each animal represents a memory of sacrifice, personal achievement, honour and pathos. Each trophy has its own story to tell.

There are many reasons a hunter chooses to hunt, it certainy not just to shoot an animal. A responsible hunter is an educator. It’s the hunters responsibility to teach others about his role in the conservation of wildlife. A hunter’s trophy rooms is not only a showcase, but a classroom that can be used as a tool for education of people who do not hunt, and will never get the chance to see these majestic creatures in the wild, due to many factors.

Hunters  are conservationists, it’s the hunter who contributes to the support of wildlife and to the protection of nature’s habitats that is mandatory for the survival of wildlife. As you view this website, the hunter showcasing his trophy room, is leaving a legacy of knowledge to his children and grandchildren. He has obeyed the game laws and has been a sentinel of the fauna and flora found all over Africa.

My Story

Born in South Africa, I have always had an intense interest and love for wildlife, due to the influence of my late father who worked for the largest National Park in South Africa, the Kruger National Park as head Game Ranger for many of his final years. Since a young age, I would hunt with my father and brothers. This was not just a time for personal growth and male-bonding, but an integral time to learn about the African fauna & flora, and most importantly, how to be an ethical hunter. We did not simply kill for the thrill, but hunted for meat, wasting no part of the animal, from the organs to the pelts. My father also taught us the importance of hunting for the preservation of these regal species.

My love for hunting has taken me all over the world, but my main goal has always been to successfully hunt the 37 species of antelope found within Southern Africa. Southern Africa is defined as countries south of the Kunene River. Through time, and by God’s grace, my dreams have come true. Through the 52 years of my hunting vocation, more than 80% of my trophies were classed as Roland Ward trophies, being ranked as world class sizes.

I also believe in ‘giving back’ to nature, and so I have been apart of several Green hunts, where the animals are darted, allowing students and veterinarians to collect and study the DNA for the future conservation and breeding programs. I have also assisted in culling programs for many Game Farms, which has allowed me the opportunity to hunt many other species which fosters education to many people who visit my Trophy room.

Although the travels & achievements have been fulfilling to me, it is my trophy room that is dearest to my heart. It’s a reflection of the all the places I have been, the people I have met and the memories created. As I look around this room, I remember the challenges I have faced, the experiences I have learned from, and I feel truly blessed.

Trophies in total

I have always strived to hunt ethically, and to seek out the oldest and most mature of each species. It was my end desire to educate the younger generation about all these magnificent animals and share my stories of hunting under the African skies.
